Renaissance – a period of European history during which renewed interest in classical culture led
to far-reaching changes in art, learning, and views of the world. The word means “rebirth” or a
revival of an interest in culture
humanism – a Renaissance intellectual movement or based on thought in which thinkers studied
classical texts and focused on human potential and achievements. An intellectual movement
about what the humans can do
secular – concerned with worldly rather than spiritual matters
patrons – a person who financially supports the arts
perspective – an artistic technique that creates the appearance of three dimensions of a flat
surface
vernacular – the everyday common language of people in a region or country
