Students experiment with long forms of improvisation to develop a final presentation. Fee: None Elective Credit TEA Course Title (Innovative Course) TEA Course Abbrev. TEA/PIEMS number Acting Styles: Improvisation/ Monologue ACTMET4 N1170126 Justification for new course to be presented to CIP committee, DEIC, and school board: Every student, theatre or not, benefits from Improvisational Theatre instruction. Improv teaches communication skills that will help our students in all aspects of life, on and off stage. Students will be equipped with confidence to speak in front of large groups, as well learn the skills to work in a team setting on smaller projects. The foundation of improv, a concept of “yes..and” will train students to always think of ways to positively contribute to their situations. This training then becomes part of the classroom culture, eventually spilling out to all aspects of their lives. Students who may not want to pursue Theatre Arts 2 or Theatre Production, would have this option to further their acting training. TEA has approved Improvisation and Monologue as an Innovative Course. http://tea.texas.gov/Curriculum_and_Instructional_Programs/Learning_Support_and_Programs/Innovative_Courses/I nnovative_Courses/ Fine Arts Theatrical Design - AMCHS & CSHS TECH THEATER II: THEATRICAL DESIGN 4.0 Credit Grade Level Course Length Prerequisite(s): Technical Theatre I 1 credit 10-12 Year Course Description: This is the study of communication and documentation materials relative to theatrical design. Throughout the course, students will compile a digital portfolio of work that demonstrates skill and understanding. This course is available for state elective credit only until the 2015-2016 school year, at which time it will provide a fine arts credit. Fee: 0 Fine Arts/Elective Credit TEA Course Title TEA Course Abbrev. TEA/PIEMS number 03251300 THEATRE AND MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS I THMECO Justification for new course to be presented to CIP committee, DEIC, and school board: More about the course… Theatre and Media Communications I combines the knowledge and skills of theatre study with those of digital media. Students study acting, technology, and management of the theatre experience along with the responsibilities of digital publication in social networking environments. They learn how to analyze, evaluate, and refine ideas as well as gain media literacy and technology applications skills. They study issues relevant to creating and communicating a message in a participatory culture through online communities and across multiple media. Students learn valued workplace skills such as how to work in teams, how to think critically, how to maintain motivation, how to plan and document project progress, and how to present their ideas to their audience. This course should not hinder any of the fine arts programs in place… see Texas Cultural Trust answer below… The Texas Cultural Trust developed these courses as a way to bring more students into the fine arts and increase the number of students involved in fine arts programs. These courses will not detract or take students away from existing programs. All Curriculum was made free by the Texas Cultural Trust and it can be found here: http://www.txartandmedia.org/ For more info See Theatre and Media Communications Justification Page/FAQ file This course was approved by the SBOE and a draft of the TEKS for the course can be found below. http://www.tea.state.tx.us/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=2147506239&libID=2147506232 Theatre and Media Communications I (TAMC) Frequently Asked Questions Q.Why do you want to create this course? A. The State Board of Education has mandated that since the passage of HB 5 that schools “districts will be required to ensure that students learn key communications skills such as delivering clear verbal messages and choosing effective nonverbal behaviors. “ Currently, CSISD is not sufficiently covering this mandate, with its removal of Communication Applications as a required local credit. Since Communication Applications is no longer required, CSISD needs a better solution to solving the “Communication Requirement Mandate” from the SBOE. TAMC is a unique course that blends the Theatre 1 and the Communication Application courses and creates a unique opportunity for CSISD students to meet the Communications Requirement in a Fine Arts setting. We know that Theatre 1 courses are growing at AMCHS and CSHS, and they will grow further with this new course as it would meet two requirements for a student, a Fine Arts credit and the Communication Requirement set forth by the SBOE. Q. Don’t we have classes like Debate 1 or Leadership in Ag to cover the Communications Application Credit? A. Yes, but these courses are not for all students. Debate 1 and Leadership in Ag are niche classes, not every student will want to take them, especially since these courses are ELECTIVES. The TAMC course would allow for students earning their mandated Fine Arts credit to meet the SBOE Communication Requirement as well. Since CSISD is all about Choice, Customization and Rigor, creating the TAMC course would further that mission. Q. Won’t this course put too much of a demand on CSISD Theatre Teachers? A. Currently, AMCHS has 2 teachers who cover the numerous amounts of theatre courses. All would be qualified to teach this new course. This course would be a great course to add to give another course for the new Technical Director at CSHS. NO NEW STAFF WOULD NEED TO BE HIRED FOR THIS COURSE TO BE CREATED. TEA/PIEMS number Mathematical Application in Agriculture Food and Natural MATHAFNR 13001000 Resources Justification for new course to be presented to CIP committee, DEIC, and school board: ● ● ● ● Many of the Agricultural Science courses currently offered in CSISD, require students to apply basic mathematical skills that are used every day in the Agriculture industry: creating quotes for customers in Floral Design, Agriculture Mechanics, Food Tech, calculating cost and retail prices of agricultural commodities, developing bills of sale, drawing plans to scale for Agricultural Mechanics projects, etc. yet our students do not have the opportunity to learn these practical industry based math skills in their regular math courses. This class will provide students an opportunity to apply mathematical skills in an area they are interested in and answer the age old question, “When will I ever use this in real life?” This will give Agriculture students an additional course to take in order the agricultural science dept. since many of our students have taken every course in their pathway of interest by the end of their sophomore or junior year. We have several Agriculture students who want to pursue an Agricultural Science major in college or postsecondary career and this course will help better prepare them for that career path. 2017-18 CTE – Arts/AV Graphic Design II - AMCHS & CSHS GRAPHIC DESIGN II ARTS A/V LAB – GRAPHIC DESIGN II 5.0 Credit Grade Level Course Length 1 + 1Lab 11-12 Year Course Description: Magazines, Digital Photography, Advertising, The Internet – Graphic Design is the foundation for media outlets worldwide. In our advisory meetings, leaders in the industry have told us that students with the proper skills can easily find a job in the industry straight out of high school. In fact, they are in need of young reliable and skilled individuals for open positions in their companies. These courses will allow students to not only proceed through their career pathway to attain their endorsement, but also give them the employability skills that can eventually lead to a career in the industry or open the door for a job that can help pay their way through college. 2017-18 CTE – Arts/AV Practicum in Animation - AMCHS & CSHS course # PRACTICUM IN ANIMATION 5.0 Credit Grade Level Course Length Prerequisite(s): Animation II 2 12 Year Course Description: Innovation is the driving force behind this course which is designed for students wanting to pursue advanced Animation or Graphic Design topics.
