Corporal Punishment
What do you think of corporal
punishment ?
 Give few reasons why you agree or
disagree .
 Is there a age limit.

•Think about school discipline.
Texas is one of 13 states that allows corporal
punishment for school children.
Is it time to change and why?

Classical Conditioning


What did Ivan Pavlov originally intend to accomplish with his
experiments?
What were some of the stimuli Pavlov used while presenting food
to the dogs?
Explain the conditioning procedure using one stimulus you saw in
this video recreation.

Behaviorism
What do think of the analogy between
human based research and animal based
research.
 What are the benefits and disadvantages
of animal based research ?

Baby Albert
 In the famous experiment conducted in the 1920s by
behaviorist John. B Watson and Rosalie Rayner, an infant was
exposed to a white rat to which he initially exhibited no fear.

The researchers then presented the rat accompanied by a loud
clanging noise. After repeated pairings, the child began to cry
when the rat alone was presented. This fear was even
generalized to objects that resembled the rat such as fluffy
white toys.
Baby Albert
What do you believe how the classical conditioning was used to in baby
Albert experiment ?

What happen to baby Albert?

In 2009, psychologist Hall P. Beck and colleagues published the results of
their efforts to solve the mystery of the boy's true identity. In an article that
appeared in American Psychologist, Beck along with Gary Irons and
Sharman Levinson presented compelling evidence that Little Albert was
actually a little boy named Douglas Merritte. The boy was the son of wetnurse Arvilla Merritte who was employed at the pediatric hospital at John
Hopkins University where Watson also worked.

Sadly, the researchers discovered that the child had died at age six
of hydrocephalus .This medical condition, also known as "water on the
brain," happens when there is a buildup of fluid inside the skull which can
lead to convulsions, enlargement of the head and mental disability.

Skinner’s Demonstration: It’s All a Matter of Consequences

Skinner had a plan to train pigeons and have them guide missiles to
an enemy target.

Describe how Skinner might have used operant conditioning to do
this. Hint: complex chains of behavior can be built step by step.

Schedules of Reinforcement
How do people become addicted to slot
machine gambling?
 Skinner explained that reinforcement is
delivered on different schedules.
 Explain the process using insight from
schedules of reinforcement.

punishment.
