TRIDIA™ In Vitro Diagnostic Surfaces
Improve sensitivity, reduce background
TRIDIA™ In Vitro Diagnostic Surfaces
The Success of Your Application Lies in its Surface
The interface between non-biological solid supports and sensitive biological capture analytes is at the core
of diagnostic assays. Advanced surface coatings from SurModics IVD optimize DNA, RNA, protein, and cell
attachment for molecular diagnostic and immunoassay applications, reducing non-specific background and
improving sensitivity.
Versatile SurModics TRIDIA™ surface coatings bind molecules to a variety of surfaces and geometries and may
be customized for selectivity using passivating polymers and reactive groups.
For diagnostic devices including point of care assays, SurModics surface coatings improve flow characteristics
through membranes and microfluidic channels. Other (non-analyte capture) surfaces from SurModics IVD
increase the wettability, hemocompatibility or lubricity of surfaces in diagnostic instruments and other test
components.
Standard formats for evaluation purposes include glass slides, 96-well plates and POC devices/chips.
TRIDIA Solutions for DNA/RNA Applications
Bind amine-modified oligos, DNA or RNA. Common applications include DNA arrays, SNP analysis and array CGH.

TRIDIA™ HD (High-Density) Surface
TRIDIA™ NHS Surface
Specially modified surface polymer for additional
hydrophobicity for greater spotting densities per
area of coated surface. Higher spotting densities than
TRIDIA NHS surface, and the highest contact angle of
SurModics’ surfaces.
An amine-reactive polymeric top coating for
covalent immobilization of DNA/RNA. Specialized
surface polymer minimizes nonspecific binding of
unwanted biomolecules in different sample types
including blood and serum.

Reactive Binding Group
Binds antibodies, ligands, antigens, DNA, microRNA
or other biomolecules. Increase signal by providing
higher loading densities of the capture bioanalyte.
Tailor for your needs—NHS esters, epoxide,
biotin-avidin and others.
O
Passivating Polymer
Prevents nonspecific binding of unwanted
biomaterial in a 3D environment. Choose from
passivating polymers to tailor polymer backbone
and meet specific hydrophilic/hydrophobic needs.
Photoreactive Group
Uses PhotoLink® technology for fast, reliable
covalent coupling of the polymer to a variety of
materials including plastics, metals, glass and latex.
TRIDIA Solutions for Protein Applications
TRIDIA EP (Epoxy) Surfaces bind proteins (antibodies, antigens), PCR products or peptides. With TRIDIA BA (Biotin-Avidin)
Surfaces, bind biotin-modified oligos and biotin-labeled DNA and cDNA, or biotinylated proteins (antibodies, antigens,
peptides) specific to the bioanalyte. Choose the high-performance surface you need for applications including protein
biosensors, cell capture and peptide arrays.

Description
Contains an epoxide reactive group for binding.
Proteins bind via their exposed amine, thiol, and
hydroxyl groups.
Polymeric topcoat covalently attached to an avidin
derivative via an NHS ester. Helps minimize nonspecific binding of unwanted biomolecules. Avidin
derivative allows easy attachment of biotinylated
antibodies for capture and analysis of biomarkers
of interest.
