COMPARATIVE PATHWAY ANALYSIS OF AGING ASSOCIATED GENES IN HUMANS AND MODEL ORGANISMS * A.E.Berman,T.Wittkop,U.S.Evani, S.D.Mooney BuckInstituteforAgeResearch,8001RedwoodBlvd Novato,CA94945USA * Email:[email protected] Agreatdealofresearchoverthepastfewdecadeshasbeendevotedtothestudyofaginginhumansandmodelorganisms.Despite thesteadilyincreasingfoundationofresearch,verylittleisknownaboutitsbiologicalmechanisms.Manygeneshavebeenimplicated intheprocessofaging,largelythroughtheuseofmodelorganisms,suchasC.elegans,D.melanogaster,andM.musculus.Although thesegenesshedlightontheagingprocess,thevastmajoritydonottranslatetoothermodelorganisms,andevenfewertohumans.A fewputativegenesfoundtoaffectaginghavebeenindentifiedinhumans,butmuchremainstobediscovered.Inthisstudy,we comparedtwogenesetsassociatedwithaging,GenAge(humanrelatedgenes),andAnAge(aginggenesinanimalmodels),inorderto determineifthegenesetsfromdifferentorganismscarriedanyfunctionalsimilarities.Comparisonswereperformedusinggene ontologyandingenuitypathwayanalysis.Additionally,eachgenesetwasusedtotrainEndeavourtoseeifcommongeneswere predictedfromthegenesets.Theresultsshowcommonalitiesbetweenanimalmodelsandhumansandmayprovideamechanismfor inferringtheappropriateaginggenesinhumans.
