Dr. Hatem El-Karanshawy is the Founding Dean of QFIS.
He has come to QFIS with a long and distinguished career both
in academia and policy.
Before joining QFIS, Dr. Hatem was Professor of Finance, and Director of
the Public Administration Program at the AmericanUniversity in Cairo.
He was also Dean at the Faculty of Commerce in Al Azhar University.
Dr. El-Karanshawy was also a member of the Board of Directors of the
Central Bank of Egypt.

He has and continues to advise extensively on Islamic Finance and
economic development.
In addition to advising the Prime Minister of Egypt and other senior
Cabinet Members, he has contributed to negotiations with the World
Bank, the African Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund,
and the US State Department. He is also member in the Arab-Japanese
Dialogue Forum.
Dr. El Karanshawy regularly participates and presents at international
events and is an active member of several academic committees.
Among, his numerous intellectual contributions are 30 articles and books
related to economic development and Islamic Finance. Dr. El Karanshawy
received his PhD in Economics from the University of Strathclyde, UK in
1976.
The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies a member of Qatar
Foundation was established to achieve intellectual plurality
that emphasizes the richness and diversity of the Islamic
heritage.
Our vision is to become a locus of thought and dialogue that
leads research and debate in all that relates to Islam and
Muslims, be that contemporary concerns or issues of heritage.
Based on the diversity and tolerance of the Islamic
Jurisprudence, QFIS provides a structure of study that adapts
and contributes to the modern changing world.

Master of Science in Islamic Finance
The Master of Science in Islamic Finance at QFIS offers
students a detailed understanding of Shari'ah rules and
the teachings of Islam that relate to finance and
economics.
The program is designed to equip participants with a
sound understanding of the finance literature and of
modern financial transactions and instruments as well
as the knowledge and skills required in the fields of
both conventional finance and Islamic finance.
Graduates will be adept at interacting with the global
financial system and at proposing viable alternatives to
existing models and approaches.
Master of Arts in Public Policy in Islam
The Masters programme in Public Policy in Islam is a
multidisciplinary program that is designed to respond
to contemporary social and economic challenges from
an Islam-based perspective
Its primary aim is to contribute to the application of
Islam to public policy and related issues including:
Democracy
Poverty
Finance
Human resources
Environment
Public management among other issues.
Our Faculty is committed to fostering a progressive
cadre of leaders, capable to govern in accordance with
the noble values and ethics of Islam; promoting social
and economic development; and enhancing the
quality of life of all citizens regardless of race or creed.
Master of Arts in Islamic Studies with a Specialization in:
Contemporary Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence)
Through this programme, students will become
intellectually, morally, and technically capable of relating the
Islamic legacy with all its texts, methodologies and principles
to modern problems and solutions.
Our scholars will be capable to use these skills to advance
development goals with moderation, creativity, and civilized
interaction.
They will be highly adept at performing world class research
in the field of Islamic Studies, and at initiating and sustaining
global collaborations.

International cooperation is an important aspect of QFIS’ philosophy. While
we are actively reaching out to diverse international partners in order to
support the Faculty’s core values, we are also being approached by some
