DEVELOPMENT OF THE ATOMIC THEORY PROJECT
due Friday, Sept. 30
For this project you will start with an atom as it was envisioned by Democritus. You will write his name
and his contribution to the atomic theory on the atom.
In succeeding layers, you will add detail to your atom and name the scientist who developed this part of
the atomic theory. You will also include a picture or a brief description of the method the scientist used.
You must include development of the quantum model in your depiction of the electron cloud so you will
need to read ahead to chapter 5, or do independent research.
Your final atom will depict the current atomic model. Each subatomic particle will be identified by
name, charge and relative mass.
Names and terms that must be included: proton, electron, neutron, de Broglie, Bohr, Schrodinger,
Rutherford, JJ. Thompson, Dalton, Democritus, James Chadwick not in correct order – see page 128).
