The Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses
By Kelsey G-B (Griswold-Bacigalupi)
Kelsy won the Athena Gold Medal Award
for the 5th Grade National Mythology Exam
Some of the Greek gods are larger than legend. Most of them have
two names; one is Greek and the other is Roman. Their names and
personalities are still with us today. For example, some of the
planets in our solar system are named after them.
• Ares—Mars
• Cronus—Saturn
• Aphrodite—Venus
• Hermes—Mercury
• Zeus—Jupiter
• Poseidon—Neptune
• Hades—Pluto*
• Uranus—Uranus
* In 2006 the status of Pluto was downgraded to"dwarf planet."

The Greeks and Romans had many of the same questions about the
unknown, just like we do. They answered their questions about
love or war or the earth by praying to a particular god or goddess.
Christians pray to the one God who is everything.
