Rising 6thth Grade Summer Math Packet
Our rising 6th graders had a busy year learning new math skills.
Mastery of all these skills is extremely important in order t o develop a
solid math foundation. Reinforcing concepts will be beneficial for your
child. Each year builds upon the previous year's skills in math.
Please have your child complete this summer math packet and return
on the first day of school.
Your child will be expected to know their addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division facts up t o 12. Practice, practice and
practice. Flash cards work great!
After your child has completed the math problems and you feel your
child is still struggling on a certain concept and needs further practice,
you can visit some of the following web sites.
Thank you so much for assisting your child with this packet.
Have a wonderful summer.

Julie ran 2.67 mi and Caitlin ran 1.586 mi. How much farther did
Julie run than Caitlin?
Estimate: 2.67 rounds to 3 and 1.586 rounds to 2.
Step 1: Write the numbers,
lining up the decimal points.
Write zeros to show place value.
Step 2: Subtract the
thousandths. Decide if you
need to regroup. Regroup 7
hundredths as 6 hundredths and
10 thousandths.
Step 3: Subtract the
hundredths. Regroup 6 tenths as
5 tenths and 10 6 hundredths.
Continue subtracting as with
whole numbers. Place the
decimal in the answer.

The difference is close to the
estimate so the answer is
