Inherited diseases – two types recessive and
dominant. Cystic fibrosis is a recessive disease passed
on by two parents. Huntingtons syndrome is a
dominant disease passed on by one parent.
Complete a genetic cross for
huntingtons syndrome.
What is cloning?
The term cloning describes a number of
different processes that can be used to
produce genetically identical copies of a
biological entity. The copied material,
which has the same genetic makeup as the
original, is referred to as a clone.
Researchers have cloned a wide range of
biological materials, including genes, cells,
tissues and even entire organisms, such as
a sheep.
There are three different types of
artificial cloning: gene cloning,
reproductive cloning and
therapeutic cloning.
Asexual reproduction
Plants can make identical
copies (clones) of themselves.
Many plants have ways of
increasing their numbers by
asexual reproduction – new
plants are created by repeated
cell division:
A potato plant can produce many tubers, each of which
can grow into a new plant.
Strawberry plants and spider plants produce long stems
with tiny plants on the end. These runners can produce
several new plants from one parent.
It's fairly easy to artificially produce new plants by taking
a cutting, and waiting for the cutting to develop new
roots and leaves.
Identical twins are natures
clones!
