Math Study Guide Chapter 4 - Multiplication • Multiplying tens, hundreds and thousands by 1 digit numbers. (page 131) Step 1: Multiply the nonzero digits. Step 2: Count the number of zeros in the factors. Step 3: Write the same number of zeros in the product. Ex. 400 x 60 = Step 1: Multiply 4 x 6 = 24 Step 2: Count the number of zeros = Total of 3 zeros Step 3: 24,000 Be able to find the product of traditional multiplications problems, such as: 340 X 20, (problems 21-32) as well as problems with numbers in word form, such as: 6 x 3 tens = 6 x 30 (problems 7-20) • Multiply 2-digit numbers by 1 digit multipliers pages 132-133, #s 1-30 pages 134-135 : you can use problems on these pages to practice. Please note that there will NOT be front-end estimation. Do not use the directions on this page. • Multiply with Regrouping (pages 136-137, #s 1-30) Ex: 24 x 3 = 72 Step 1: Multiply the ones place, and regroup. 4 x 3 = 12, carry the 1 Step 2: Multiply the tens and add the regrouped tens. 2 x 3 = 6 + 1= 7 • Multiply 3-digit numbers by 1 digit multipliers (pg 138-139, #s 1-24) Remember to multiply and regroup as necessary. Write the decimal point in the product, two places from the right. Write the dollar sign. Practice with the problems on the pages, however do not use front-end estimation. • Multiply 4-digit numbers by 1 digit multipliers with and without regrouping (pgs 142-143 #s 1-26) Remember, no front-end estimation. • Multiply 2-digit numbers by 2 digit multipliers with and without regrouping (pgs 148-151) Multiply by the ones Multiply by the tens and add regrouped tens if necessary. Add the partial products to get the final product. • Multiply 3-digit numbers by 2 digit multipliers with and without regrouping (pgs 152-153, #s 1-26) • Solving Word Problems Be able to solve word problems. Look throughout the chapter, in each lesson, to practice word problems. Remember to read the word problems carefully and understand what is being asked before setting up a math equation.
