The Crusades were military interventions organised by the Pope and the European Kings. What was the aim of the Crusades? The aim of the Crusades was to conquer the Holy Land from the Muslims. When was the First Crusade? The First Crusade was from 1096 to 1099 to free the Holy Land from the Turks who had occupied Jerusalem. Why did knights participate? Many knights took the journey to Jerusalem, influenced by faith or by spirit of adventure. What was the order of the Knights Templar? The order of the Knights Templar was created during the Crusades with the objective of defending many pilgrims who visited the Holy Land. How many Crusades were there? Eight Crusades followed, although none fulfilled the objective of permanently recuperating the Holy Land. What were the advantages of the Crusades? One advantage of the Crusades was the development of trade and communication between both cultures either side of the Mediterranean. What were the disadvantages of the Crusades?
