Force Notes Force • Force = push or pull • can cause an object to start/stop moving or change direction • described by how strong and in what direction the force is moving Types of Force 1. Contact Force – when 2 objects are touching Types of Force 2. Friction – force when 2 objects rub against each other in opposite directions • slows objects down or makes objects move Types of Force 3. Gravitational Force – acts between 2 objects (gravity) Types of Force 4. Magnetic Force – attraction between metals Types of Force 5. Electrical Force – charged parts of atoms react to each other Forces • Unbalanced Force – when several forces act on an object • WILL change the object’s position Force • Balanced Force – forces are equal in opposite directions • NO change in position Forces •Net Force = all the forces acting on an object
