If you are astrantia crazy, this is for you! As with all masterworts the flowers are longlasting and contrast vividly with the deep green foliage. Excellent cut flower. Flowers early and reblooms in late summer. Try with Helleborus, Brunnera ’Jack Frost’, and Athyrium ‘Ursula’s Red’. Red H 8-12" W 8-12" Spring - Summer Full - Part Shade Bleeding Heart Dicentra ‘King of Hearts’ Papaveraceae (The Poppy Family) Zone 3-9 ‘King of Hearts’ is a compact bleeding heart hybrid that produces nicely-textured, deeply-cut, ferny, bluish-green foliage in a mound to eight inches tall and fourteen inches wide. The rich carmine-rose coloured flowers are nodding, heart-shaped, and held above the foliage. The initial bloom occurs in spring but plants will likely bloom throughout summer and into fall in cool, shady conditions. A cross of the Japanese D. peregrina with two American species D. formosa subsp. oregana and D. eximia. The rich colour holds better than most other coneflowers. The flowers also have a lovely honey scent. A great landscape plant due to its multiple, wide-branching strong stems. Great for cutting. Purple 12-24" W 2-3' Spring - Summer Spanish Lavender Lavandula stoechas ‘Otto Quast’ Lamiaceae (The Mint Family) Full - Part Sun Zone 8-10 This popular selection forms a dense shrub with grey-green foliage. The flower stems bear tight flower spikes of small purple flowers crowned by several one inch long magenta purple petal-like bracts that look like butterflies. ‘Otto Quast’ has a long bloom period from late spring through to fall. Shear lavenders lightly in early spring just as they begin growth and again after flowering to keep tidy.
