Marketing Communications Manager Organization TECTERRA Inc. is a technology commercialization organization supporting the development and commercialization of geospatial technologies across a range of industries including integrated resource management (energy, forestry, agriculture, environment, and land management) and other emerging technology applications in Alberta with partners in industry, research institutions and government. Summary Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Marketing Communications Manager role involves leadership in the definition, execution, coordination, administration and management of TECTERRA’s marketing and communications activities and programs. The Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for managing and strengthening TECTERRA’s messaging and branding into target markets and with primary stakeholders. The Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for the planning and creation of strategies, tactics, activities and materials. The position is responsible for corporate communications including advertising and promotional programs; public relations and trade shows; online communications including social media; and networking facilitation programs catering to the geospatial industry. As workload requires and budget permits, this position may be required to oversee temporary subordinates or outside contractors. The Marketing Communications Manager must be adaptable, dynamic, enthusiastic, energetic and ready to do whatever the job requires to ensure TECTERRA meets and exceeds the expectations of its stakeholders. Must be a self-driven business professional, experienced in strategic and tactical management of all marketing and communications activities. This position would be of interest to someone who wishes to work in a small, not-for-profit, technology commercialization organization and be involved in a complex, dynamic and diverse environment with responsibilities that range from business management to functional execution of marketing communications tasks and projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead, craft, and execute marketing communications plan and strategy for the organization including related performance metrics Lead, craft, and execute the plan and strategy for TECTERRA’s Networking Facilitation program including related performance metrics Define, manage and be accountable for TECTERRA’s marketing communications and related program budget Develop and maintain appropriate systems and process to track the execution, management, and performance of marketing communications programs and activities. Work directly with existing and new partners in marketing communications, networking programing, stakeholders, and associations, to create and implement programs and agreements while maintaining positive relationships Help in the definition and delivery of TECTERRA’s strategic planning process Expand TECTERRA’s online presence, including an integrated digital media strategy pg. 1 Manage and track TECTERRA’s online presence through its social media sites Support the development of TECTERRA’s business strategy and related documents including the business plan and other program definition documents and processes Lead all aspects of TECTERRA’s annual TECNOVATE tradeshow including building the budget, planning and execution of the event; managing and working alongside the event planning company and other external vendors; supporting exhibitors and sponsors; developing and managing all printed and online collateral; working with media, and other related tasks as required Develop a variety of corporate marketing and bsusiness collateral including trade show graphics, marketing collateral, the design and content of the company website, branding style guide, visual identity, marcom library and other related material as required Develop, update and manage the implementation of the strategic communications plans and programs outlining goals, objectives and expected results for key corporate initiatives Execute, manage and coordinate promotional and networking trade shows in which the company is directly participating including: arranging booth space, design and production of display graphics, logistics, set-up, marketing collateral, budget, shipping, and hotels. Provide logistical support for other trade shows in which the company is directly participating. Coordinate and manage marketing programs and events, as needed Research, write, edit and distribute corporate press releases Develop and purchase promotional items according to company standards and budget Manage outside print services and other marketing vendors Ensure that marketing materials position the company and its mission for high visibility with industry, government, academia, trade associations, media audiences and partners Create and manage public relations activities and advertising to ensure the company is widely and positively represented in the general business press and geomatics industry publications Other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time by Management Location This position is based in TECTERRA’s office in Calgary, Alberta Full-time position, in-office presence five days a week Some travel may be required Education and Experience University degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Sales or English Minimum 8 years’ experience in a high-tech corporate marketing environment, preferably with exposure to government and academia Experience in copywriting, layout, advertising, graphic design, web design, web marketing, information graphics, public relations and project management would be an asset General knowledge of commercial printing techniques Experience in both strategic management and operational management, including working with senior management teams and leading functional resources pg. 2 Human Relations Skills The Marketing Communications Manager has significant interaction with other people at all levels within and outside the company. The highest level of interpersonal skills is required by this position including effective and professional internal communication, negotiation and relationship management. The Manager requires a well-developed and proven understanding of human behavior and those factors which influence or cause behavior change and be able to create and maintain a positive working environment with all staff members. Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. Advanced skill level in Adobe Creative Suite software or similar. Advanced knowledge of Web content editing process, methodology and tools. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Able to effectively manage multiple tasks with changing priorities. Strong relationship builder and able to influence people and execute programs without developing or nurturing interpersonal conflicts Professional and mature, with a positive attitude and results-focused orientation; Excellent team player and flexible Excellent planning, time management, communications, decision-making, presentation and organization.
