Difference between Virus and Bacteria Virus Bacteria Nonliving Living No Binomial nomenclature Binomial Nomenclature Any shape Rod, Spiral or Spherical Needs a host to multiply Reproduces by Binary Fission (Asexually) and Conjugation(Sexually) Structure: Outside Protein Coat which helps in Protection and attaching to the host. Inner Core consists of Genetic material which help it to multiply. Structure: Cell wall, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm , Ribosome, Genetic material in the cytoplasm, and flagellum Since it is nonliving , it does not need food, However it needs a host to multiply. Causes Infectious diseases: Measles, Flu, Cold, AIDS, Polio Survival needs: Food , Energy(Respiration) and Formation of Endospore Causes Infectious diseases :Strep Throat, Pneumonia Vaccines are Used to Prevent Viral Infection Vaccines are used to prevent Bacterial infections Antibiotics are not effective for viral infection. Antibiotics are used to kill Bacteria
