Objectives 1/3/11-1/7/11: Use criteria to choose independent reading materials. Independently read books for various purposes. Distinguish the characteristics of consumer materials. Apply active listening strategies (e.g., monitoring message for clarity, selecting and organizing essential information, noting cues such as changes in pace). Identify and analyze the persuasive techniques (e.g., bandwagon, testimonial, glittering generalities, emotional word repetition and bait and switch) used in presentations and media messages. Silent Reading Wednesday 1/5/11 Assign students to groups of 4 Students get together to decide on a unique product to advertise They then begin to create an add for the product that they will present in the form of a commercial They must be able to explain the type/types of propaganda used as well as who their target is….a rubric will be given Silent Reading Thursday 1/6/11 Put the finishing touches on commercials/must have a visual aid Have groups come up with a vocabulary list for propaganda (can’t use the techniques) Discuss words and define ones that are unknown Silent Reading Friday 1/7/11 Silent Reading Propaganda test Commercial presentations
