Cell Analogy Poster
Date Due: ____________________________
Total Points: 55 points
Analogy: A comparison between two things which are similar in some respects, but
otherwise are different, or an explanation of something by comparing it point by
point with something else.
Instructions:
1. Draw a plant or animal cell in pencil on white paper.
a. Include the following organelles or structures…Animal Cell: Cell
Membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body,
mitochondria, lysosome, ribosomes, vacuoles.
For a Plant Cell: add cell wall, replace small vacuoles with one large
vacuole, chloroplasts, and take out lysosome.
2. Title your poster Plant Cell Analogy or Animal Cell Analogy, underneath the
title write your theme.
3. Find out the main function of each structure, and then write an original
analogy to show the similarity between the cell part and the theme. You can
use any theme you like, such as Pokemon, Spongebob, Japaname, Disney,
things in your household, etc. The organelles MUST go along with the theme
and be appropriate to what they do for the cell.
Example: Theme is the movie Over The Hedge: Hammy is like the
Mitochondria because he has a large amount of energy and he
energizes the group just like Mitochondria is how the cell gets most
of its’ energy.
4. Print or draw a picture of each analogy.
5. Paste your cell drawing in the middle of a piece of construction paper.
6. Paste the analogy pictures around the cell drawing close to the organelles it
represents. Draw a pointer neatly from each analogy picture to the correct
structures in the cell. Label each pointer neatly with the names of the
organelles and the analogies next to the analogy pictures.
GRADING: You will be graded on neatness, accuracy, originality, and
completion…rubric is on the back
