Name Period ______ Date________________ In this assignment, you will compare cell organelles and functions to those of a working city or another analogy with a theme. For this assignment you can be very creative. In the past, students have used different themes such as: Disneyland, North Pole, farm, and Hunger Games. Cell City Introduction Floating around in the cytoplasm are small structures are called organelles. Like the organs in your own body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the cell to survive. Imagine the cell as a miniature city (or another theme). The organelles might represent companies, places or parts of the city because they have similar jobs. This is called a functional analogy. Directions 1. Draw a diagram of a city or your theme. Clip art may be used to add to your city, but it should supplement your drawings (not be entirely done of clip art) and it must be printed from home. 2. Label the city with corresponding city AND cell parts. See Example: City Part 3. Include a key that lists what the cell part is and a description of what it does and how they are related (cell andcity part). Cell Part Additional REQUIREMENTS Include your name on your project. Identify the cell type (Tell if it is a plant or an animal cell) The model must be in color. Your organelles must be related to structure in or around the cell, with a logical analogy. You may be as artistic, creative, and humorous as you like. You may use the notes from class or your book or other resources as much as needed. Make a table of cell parts with their related city parts.
