Model Analogy Rubric
Part 1: Choose an organized structure or system with which you are familiar - examples: car, factory,
town, human body... be creative - compare the cell organization and organelle functions to your system of
choice.
Name _________________
Score __________________
Part 2: Present your analogy in a format of your choice. It must include both a cell model and your
system. Include a legend to identify the organelle and how it is represented in the analogy model.

Legend Identification
Organelle Representation (Double pts)
*Model is identified as plant or animal
and student identifies why it is plant or
animal.
*Creative
*Model is identified as a plant or animal
cell.
*Obvious effort at creativity
* Accurate and in depth description of
functions of 12 or more of the organelles is
provided.
*Cell is not identified as plant or animal.
*Model still shows effort at neatness
*Detailed descriptions of the functions the
cell parts given in 7 - 9 cell parts.
*Analogy is given for 7 to 9 of the cell
parts listed. (4 pts)
*Model shows obvious lack of effort
toward neatness and/or completion.
*Accurate and detailed descriptions of
functions of fewer than 7 cell parts are
given
*Analogy is present for fewer than 7 of
the cell parts listed. (2 pts)
*Accurate and detailed descriptions of the
functions of 10 to 11 of the cell parts listed
are given.
*A reasonable analogy between the
function of the cell part and the item
used to represent it is given for 12 or
more organelles. (8 pts)
*An analogy is given for 10 to 11 of the
cell parts listed. (6 pts)
Cell organelles to be incorporated into model cell. If present & defined 1 pt each.
