One color represents a -1 (RED). The other color represents a +1 (YELLOW) Draw a + sign in one circle and color it yellow. Draw a - sign in one circle and color it red. = ZERO PAIR Step 2: What is a ZERO PAIR? Opposite numbers, such as -2 and +2 make up a ZERO PAIR. When you combine (or add) opposite numbers, they are called ADDITIVE INVERSES. Additive inverses are called Zero Pairs because they are "two numbers" that "always have a SUM of ZERO".
