Solar System Study Guide
The Sun
 Is the largest body in our solar system
 Is made up primarily of hydrogen and helium
 Has solar flares
The Solar System
 The solar system is a system of objects around the Sun
 A satellite is an object in space that circles another object.
 A mixture of ice, dust, and rock that circles the Sun is a comet.
 The order of the planets in our Solar System from closest to the Sun
to furthest from the Sun is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
 A moon revolves around a planet.
 A closed, curved orbit shaped something like an egg is an ellipse.
Gravity
 The rise and fall of the ocean’s surface is a tide.
 Planets keep orbiting around the sun by gravitational attraction.
 The two factors that affect the force of gravity are the total masses
of the two objects and the distance between them.
 Jupiter is the planet with the greatest surface gravity.
