Cell Organelle Project
Directions: Choose one of the three projects. Follow the directions for that project.
Project # 1: The Cell Travel Brochure
Produce a travel brochure that describes a plant or animal cell as if it were a large
exhibit/amusement park. You want to attract visitors to spend money to visit your cell.




Describe/draw/explain at least 8 organelles (attractions) and their functions that
will "delight and amaze" their potential customers. Humor and creativity are
strongly encouraged.
Make a tri-fold brochure or book like brochure.
Must include pictures of the attraction (not just a picture of the organelle)
State if it is a plant or animal cell
Brochures will be graded by accuracy of 8 organelle descriptions, design, neatness, and
creativity
Project # 2: Cell Collage of Analogies
This project you will make 8 original and appropriate functional analogies between
cell structures (organelles) and everyday objects.

Use the following supplies 8 ½ X 11 sheet of white paper, larger poster board,
pictures, glue, and scissors.
1. Draw or cut out a plant or animal cell on 8 ½ " X 11" white paper. Include the
at least 8 organelles.
2. Label your pictures as either a plant or animal cell.
3. Write an analogy to show the similarity between the cell part and the everyday
object. Be sure to explain the reasoning behind your analogies.
Example: Nucleus to a brain ( The nucleus is like a brain because it controls
and coordinates the activities of the whole cell in the same way the brain
controls and coordinates activities of the body.)
4. Find or draw a picture of your everyday object
5. Paste your cell drawing in the middle of a poster-size piece of construction
paper.
6.
Paste the pictures of everyday objects at the edges of the construction paper.
7. Label the pictures with your neatly written analogies
8.
Make a pointer to the correct structure in your cell drawing and your analogy.
The collage will be graded on 8 correct analogies, creativity, neatness, and design.
Project # 3: Cell Analogies using a Prezi presentation
This project you will make 8 original and appropriate functional analogies between
cell structures (organelles) and everyday objects. State if you are using a plant or animal
cell. Same ideas as Project 2, but this will use the website program instead of art
supplies. You will need to go to http://prezi.com and create a free account.
1. Read or watch the tutorial on how to use the program
2. Create 8 parts to your Prezi (use circles or squares to keep each analogy separate)
3. Include a picture of the everyday object and then write the analogy. The picture
can be one you download from your own pictures or one found on the internet.
4. Animate your Prezi sequence and save.
5. You can “Get a link” for your Prezi and send it to me in an email
[email protected] or write it down and hand it in
6. You can also show it to me on my computer if you want to login and open the
file.
