• A circuit is a closed path of conducting material
• Electricity cannot flow unless a circuit is present
• A circuit includes
1. Power source
2. Conducting wires
3. Load
Types of Circuits
• Series circuit
• Parallel circuit
Series Circuit
• One path
• If one device burns out, circuit
is incomplete and does not
work
• Current is the same everywhere
• Example: old Christmas lights
Parallel Circuit
• More than one path
• If one device goes out, the rest are unaffected
• Current is the sum of the currents from all
paths
• Example: the plugs in your home
