Propaganda/Advertising Techniques What is Propaganda? Techniques used to get people to buy a product or engage in an action. Techniques: Endorsement –When a famous person claims that they like the product or are engaging in an action as a means of enticing others to do the same. Symbols – The use of symbols to appeal to the public. This might be used to encourage them to buy a product or engage in an action. Just Plain Folks -- The use of regular people in advertising to convey the idea that anyone can use the product with success. Bandwagon – Convincing people that everyone else is using the product or engaging in the action so that they should as well. Glittering Generality – A statement that sounds appealing but is essentially meaningless. Name Calling – An attempt to turn people against a product or person by using negative labels.
