INFORMATION about COLORS and GENETICS
Because I study color genetics, and have lots of color in my breeding program, I get asked LOTS of questions about
colors and color possibilities for foals. I used to include most of this info in my breeding agreements, but it added
too much length to the contract, so I am going to have it all listed separate now. Below you will find Genetic test
results for Stallions standing at the ranch along with color possibilities and other information. Knowing your
mares’ genetics can predict color possibilities with different stallions.
Pony x Horse Crosses-
We are now offering Cross breeding with Ponies and Horses. We utilize Artificial
Insemination (A.I.) in our breeding program, and that allows us to breed PONY STALLIONS to Full Sized Mares,
and to breed AQHA, APHA, and Appaloosa Stallions to PONY mares…. And this cross produces those highly
desired Small Horses/Large Ponies for Youth and Family Performance horses/Ponies.
ALL Breeds - We accept almost all breeds of Horses and Ponies to All our Stallions, including Un-Registered
Mares. CALL 580-471-4040 (8 am to 7 pm central time) to speak with Bedonna
Appaloosa StallionSILVERADO REIN
ApHC (Appaloosa) few spot, Blue Roan/Black stallion. 15.0-15.1 hands. Genotype: EEaaLPLP+Rn. This stallion
has been tested and confirmed to be Homozygous for the LP gene. LP is short for Leopard Complex, which is the
term used to describe All of the Appaloosa Coat patterns. When an Appaloosa is Homozygous for LP, they often
Don’t have many spots, and are a ‘Few Spot’ coat pattern like Silverado Rein. He will pass a LP/Appaloosa pattern
gene to every foal he sires. He also is Homozygous for the Black base. All his foals will have a dark base. He
cannot sire a Sorrel/Chestnut or Palomino foal. He also is aa for Agouti. When bred to Black mares, all the foals
will be Black or Blue Roan Appaloosas. When bred to common colored mares (Sorrels, Bays…) base color of foal
will be Black, Blue Roan, Dark Bay/Brown, Dark Bay/Brown Roan, Bay, or Bay Roan. When bred to Crème gene
mares (Palomino, Buckskin, etc.) these above colors are possible, along with Buckskin, Buckskin Roan, Smokey
Black, and Smokey Black Roan. There will Never be Sorrel or Palomino from this stallion. This means he is a
True Black Roan underneath all that white!
When Silverado Rein has been bred to AQHA mares, the foals carry one LP gene and are Heterozygous for LP.
These are often the most colorful of the Appaloosas and often have lots of beautiful spots.
Night Blindness has been associated with the LP gene, and in a Homozygous state can affect the horse’s vision in
dark places. But single LP gene Appaloosas are NOT affected.
So, bred to Non-Appaloosa mares (AQHA, TB, Fresian, Gated, Pony, and even Paint mares, the foals will get the
benefits of the Appaloosa Pattern gene, but have no risk of night blindness issues.
AQHA-APHA StallionMR POCO JESSIE TIVIO
AQHA/APHA Perlino Stallion. 14.2 hands. He is approximately 97% Foundation Quarter horse. He is 25%
POCO BUENO and 18.75% JESSIE JAMES blood. He is Double-Registered due to his Color, but he is all Quarter
Horse with no Paint blood. He is Parentage verified. This stallion is a Double-Dilute (Perlino) EEAACrCr. He is
Not a Gray. He will contribute a dark base, a cream gene, and an Agouti gene to every foal. He sires 100%
Buckskins on Common colored/Non-Dilute mares. With a Gray Mare, the foal will carry a cream gene and will be
born Buckskin but may turn Gray. With a Single-Dilute Mare (Palomino, Buckskin, etc.) the foal will be a
Buckskin or Perlino. Mare owner is guaranteed to get a foal with a base color or Buckskin, Buckskin Dun, Perlino,
or Gray (if mare is gray) due to stallion’s genetics. Never a Red or Bay foal.
When bred to AQHA or TB mares, the foals can be double registered with AQHA and APHA as breeding stock.
When bred to APHA mares, the foals are registered with APHA. Tivio is also listed with ApHC and Appaloosa
mares are accepted. I allow all colors and Breeds of mares to be bred to this stallion, including un-registered mares.
Also accepted- Gated, Draft, etc.
Note: Some Poco Bueno bloodlines have been known to carry the HERDA positive gene. Mr Poco Jessie Tivio has
been tested and confirmed Negative for the gene. He does not carry it.
He is also now tested for the 5-Panel Test, and he is Negative for all 5 diseases.
Several AQHA Stallions
A SPECIAL BUGS ALIVE
AQHA Sorrel stallion. 15.1 hands. His genotype is eeAA. This means he carries two red bases and two Agouti
genes. Red is recessive to dark bases and bred to dark colored mares, the foals may be dark colored. He carries two
Agouti genes and will give one to every foal, so his dark colored foals will be Bays, Browns, or Buckskins, etc.
Bred to crème gene mares, the foals may be Palomino or Buckskin. He is also now tested for the 5-Panel Test, and
he is Negative for all 5 diseases.
CCQH LUCKY … and… ZACH BLUE
Both of these stallions are AQHA Blue Roan stallions. Both are approximately 97-98% Foundation Quarter horse
and 15.0 hands. BOTH of these stallions are Homozygous for the Black base and Homozygous for the Roan gene.
EEaaRnRn. Every foal they sire will receive a dark base and a Roan gene from Zach Blue. They sire 100% Roans
with dark Base colors. Color of MARE will also have influence on the foal’s color. With common colored (Sorrel,
Bay, etc.) mares: Blue Roan, Dark Bay/Brown Roan, and Bay Roan foals are possible. With Palomino, Buckskin,
and other mares with a Crème gene: Blue Roan, Buckskin Roan, Bay Roan, Dark Bay/Brown Roan or Smokey
Black Roan would be possible. For Dun or Grullo mares: Blue Roan, Bay Roan, Dark Bay/Brown Roan, Blackpointed Dun Roan, or Grullo Roan foals. If the mare is a Gray… then the foal will carry a Roan gene and start off
Roan, but may turn Gray over time. Mare Owner is guaranteed to get a foal with a dark base color and carrying a
Roan gene.
They are also listed and approved by APHA to breed Paint mares, and both are 5 Panel NEG. . All colors and
Breeds of mares accepted for these stallions. CCQH LUCKY is offered for Shipped Cooled Semen, and On-Farm
