TITLE: PROJECT COORDINATOR, NE MAJOR PROJECTS OFFICE

CONTEXT:
NE Major Projects Office is a service oriented team, focused on supporting the Natural Resource Sector (NRS)
to further improve the effectiveness and accountability with all major projects. Through collaboration within
FLNRO and with other provincial agencies, the branch is engaged with small scale projects to large and
complex projects.
The NE Major Projects is accountable to:
 Implement short and long-term solutions to reduce unnecessary administration.
 Oversee the coordination of tools for project tracking and monitoring, with the goal of capturing and
reporting on projects from concept to completion.
 Provide a simple, web-based “one-window” information portal into projects. This portal would have
both an internal working component and a public component.
 Ensure that projects that are evaluated using decision making tools that can lead to appropriate and
durable decisions. This includes dealing with cumulative effects resulting from multiple projects.
 Develop staff support strategies to improve consistency and effectiveness across the regions (and
across agencies).
 Develop improved decision support tools, in order to create more durable decisions.
 Lead partnership with EAO, particularly to support Federal-Provincial harmonization a well as
improve post EAO compliance with certification conditions.
The Project Coordinator will provide coordination to the Major Projects Office work plan priorities for regional
operations in the Northeast. The position requires a motivated individual who can work independently on
numerous projects. The Project Coordinator will support project managers in on a variety of large scale
complex projects and provides coordination on components of assigned projects.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Major Projects Coordinator provides project management coordination functions for a variety of large
scale complex projects, including project tracking, monitoring and reporting. The Project Coordinator is directly
accountable for assigned portions (e.g., sub projects) of larger projects as a project team member.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Required:

Provides project coordination for a variety of large scale complex projects and manages assigned
portions of projects within project management standards that cross the organization.

Carries out the planning, implementation and delivery of assigned initiatives as a project team
member.

Monitors project performance, analyzes outcomes, and reports on performance indicators.

Identifies project risks and develops risk mitigation strategies and/or risk controls.

Provides work direction to contracted resources and may provide work direction to a small project
team.

Develops detailed cost estimates, budgets and schedules.

Prepares and presents project management information in the form of project charters,
implementation plans, Gantt charts to support informed decision making by executive.

Conducts post implementation reviews to analyze findings, draw conclusions and produce reports.

Acts as a resource at meetings and presentations with stakeholders and other interested parties to
provide project information.

Leads and facilitates project planning sessions with senior managers and project participants to identify
clear project goals and objectives, scope and deliverables and performance measures.

Responds to queries raised by the public and/or stakeholders.

Monitors and controls contractual arrangements with outside consultants.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Degree or diploma in a related field such as business or public administration or project management;

Some post-secondary education or training in the area of project management, or equivalent.

Experience conducting detailed analyses and preparing reports.

Experience providing project management and coordination services for assigned projects.

Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or tasks complicated by shifting priorities and
deadlines.

Demonstrated experience/expertise with PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, MS Word, briefing notes
and report writing. Database experience would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
