Comments:
Your Goal as an advertisement executive for the Old England Colonial
Expansion Company is to persuade family and friends back home in England to
immigrate to the New World.
Your Role as an advertisement executive is to create an attractive brochure,
using one propaganda technique advertising 1 of the 13 colonies.
The Audience, family and friends in England, must decide which colony to settle
in and begin a new life.
The Situation: You have selected your colony and researched the history.
The Product: An attractive, well-constructed and organized brochure about your
colony. This brochure must contain 1 propaganda technique, as well as include
facts about your colony to persuade family and friends to immigrate to your great
colony. Your colony must have a slogan, included on the brochure.
Propaganda Techniques
1. Testimonial: a public figure or celebrity promotes or
endorses your colony
2. Repetition: your colony name or keyword or phrase is
repeated in your brochure
3. Compare and Contrast: family and friends are led to
believe your colony is better than the others
4. Transfer: your colony is associated with a well-respected
person or group
5. Loaded Words: using words with strong, positive and
emotional connotations and associations to describe your
colony
6. Bandwagon: makes the appeal that “everyone else is
moving to your colony, and so should you”
7. Plain Folks: attempt to convince friends and family back
home in England that a famous person believes that your
colony is the best and all kinds of immigrants should move
there
