Making Karyotypes Lab:
1) Number the chromosomes that match the already numbered chromosomes on the page
with scattered chromosomes.
2) Cut the pair of chromosomes out
3) Glue or tape the chromosomes on the lined paper in lab manual that has the number of
the chromosome pair indicated on the line.
4) Are there any missing/extra chromosomes?
5) Answer all questions in lab
6) Extension: Make a table:

Flip coin to determine the alleles of your child’s genotype.
Check off the phenotype (physical characteristics) that the coin flipping has created
Draw the head of your child with the characteristics obtained.
Answer all questions in lab
Extension: In a 2-3 page paper, pick 3 genetic disorders that are caused by mutation,
gene addition, deletion, nondisjunction. NOTE: You may not use disorders from the
Making Karyotype lab.
