Punic Wars •Causes •Events •Outcomes •Effects 1st Punic War Somebody Carthage Wanted Wanted to control all of Sicily But The Roman army defeated the Carthaginian Navy So Carthage asked for peace, and Rome took control of Sicily and other islands off the coast. Indemnity = payment for damages 2nd Punic War Somebody Hannibal (a great Carthaginian soldier) Wanted To attack Rome. He marches over the Alps with thousands of soldiers and elephants. He defeated the Roman armies, destroying towns. But The Romans attacked Carthage So Hannibal rushed back to Carthage, but was defeated. Carthage’s navy was destroyed, and Rome took control of Spain. 3rd Punic War Somebody Carthage Wanted To attack a Carthage ally But Rome invaded Carthage again. The Romans cut off the food supply, destroyed the soil, and burned the city. Carthage was destroyed. Rome took control of the Mediterranean So Punic Wars Overview Setting Where and When?
