Religion • The Chinese believed the king was their link between heaven and earth • The king’s job was to carry out religious rituals • This led the way for a new kind of government • Mandate of Heaven—the king was chosen for his talent and virtue • Under the Mandate of Heaven the people expected two things: – 1.
