backgrounds

common biological heritage,

our ability to use language,
and our social behaviors

external influences, called our

individualists value personal

achievement. These cultures
include North America,
Western Europe, and Australia

interdependence, tradition,
and harmony. Examples of
these cultures include Korea,
Japan, and China.

female is called our gender identity.

themselves into boy and girl worlds.
Children also learn from their gender
schemas what it means to be male or

that cognition is important in the
formation of gender identity

converging.

development shows that no
single factor is all powerful.
