WHAT IS WELL-BEING




Popular use of the term ‘well-being’
usually relates to health.
Philosophical use is broader, but related,
and amounts to the notion of how well a
person's life is going for that person. A
person's well-being is what is ‘good for’
them.
To be the balance between good and bad
things in a person's
life

What is an anxiety disorder?
An anxiety disorder differs from normal stress and
anxiety as it is:
 more severe
 more persistent and long lasting
 more likely to interfere with work or relationships
According to a UK study, 1 in 10 adults attending
their GP experiences symptoms of anxiety
(King M, Nazareth I, Levy G, Walker C, Morris R, Weich S et al. Prevalence of common mental disorders in
general practice attendees across Europe. The British Journal of Psychiatry 2008; 192: 362-7)

Risk factors for
anxiety disorders
Anxiety is caused by perceived threats in the
environment and some people are more likely than
others to react with anxiety to these situations
Anxiety disorders are more common in women and
can also result from:
 some medical conditions
 side effects of some prescription drugs
