De facto Rubric of
“Sustainability”

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the
good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
It may be better to live under robber barons
than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The
robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his
cupidity may at some point be satiated; but
those who torment us for our own good will
torment us without end, for they do so with the
approval of their own conscience."
- C.S. Lewis
What is Agenda 21

OXFORD DICTIONARY:
A set of proposals, made at the 1992 UN
Conference on Environment and
Development for the furtherance of
world-wide, sustainable development.
4
Why so much debate?
Sustainability with a Capital “S”




Agenda 21/ICLEI is a Socio-economic
political movement
From UN Dept of Social & Economic Affairs
Advocates government control over land-use,
labor, and capital (known as factors of production)
under the guise of “Sustainability”
Focus: 3-E’s

Environment – Economy - Social Equity
5
The “logo” of UN Agenda 21
…Three E’s

According to Agenda 21, the objective
of Sustainable Development is to
integrate:
E
Environmental policies
 Economy
 Equity (as in Social Equity)

E

6
Understanding the Bible of
Sustainability- Agenda 21


Pay close attention to the choice of words
and emphasis on “Government” in the
Agenda 21 “Sustainability” document.
In particular watch for the following:





Gov’t into production and consumption
Gov’t source for all solutions
“Identity Politics” as a means of dividing;
conquering; and building consensus against
capitalism and private property rights.
Transfer of wealth initiatives and pro-Marxist
“bent”.
Emphasis on “the people” rather than individuals7
Agenda 21- Gov’t Centric


14.41. Governments at the
appropriate level, should:
(b) Select combinations of land uses
and production systems appropriate to
land units through multiple goal
optimization procedures, and
strengthen delivery systems and local
community participation;
8
Waste Disposal

21.4. Environmentally sound waste
management must go beyond the mere
safe disposal or recovery of wastes… by
attempting to change
unsustainable patterns of
production and consumption.
QUESTION- How will they do
this?
9
Sustainability Agenda21 SECTION III
STRENGTHENING ROLE OF MAJOR
GROUPS (Identity Politics)

24.Global action for women towards sustainable and
equitable development

25.Children and youth in sustainable development

26.Recognizing and strengthening the role of
indigenous people and their communities


27.Strengthening the role of non-governmental
organizations: partners for sustainable
development
29.Strengthening the role of workers and their
trade unions
10
Agenda 21…



“Each country should, in consultation
with its youth communities, establish a
process to promote dialogue between the
youth community and Government… “
Government determines appropriate
levels of production and consumption
Middle class= unsustainable
11
Appeal to the proletariat

29.4. For workers and their trade unions to
play a full and informed role in support of
sustainable development, Governments and
employers should promote the rights of
individual workers to freedom of association and
the protection of the right to organize as laid
down in ILO conventions…

FALLACIES
&
CLIMATE CHANGE
15
TOP 10 “SUSTAINABILITY” FALLACIES
6
Climate change is catastrophic & anthropogenic and must be addressed through
CO2 abatement schemes. REALITY: It is not catastrophic, and as a practical
matter CO2 reductions WILL NOT WORK. You'll see NO CLAIMS of even 1/1000th
a degree improvement. Washout time >100 yrs
7
Compact Development with public sewer is more sustainable (SB236).
REALITY: Sewage overflows; exfiltration; and aquifer depletion more damaging
8
Subways and mass transit can replace cars.
REALITY: They can’t. If they could, there'd be no cars in Manhattan.
9
Compact Urban Development is more affordable for gov't
REALITY: Empirical evidence proves compact development requires higher tax
rates. Urbanization strains police; fire, educational, and social services.
10 Affordable Housing for people of ALL INCOME levels will ensure healthier better
balanced neighborhoods. REALITY: Government sponsored housing usually
creates more problems then it solves… thereby damaging communities
16
TOP 10 SUSTAINABILITY FALLACIES
0
Sustainability is about protecting the environment. REALITY: It's a political
movement to replace capitalism with government control of everything
1
Free market capitalism is the principle cause of planetary degradation and is not
sustainable.
REALITY: It is government centric control of the economy that is
not sustainable
2
Private Property is a source of social injustice, and too valuable to be subject to
free markets. REALITY: The right to own and use private property is a
fundamental source of wealth creation
3
Green Energy creates jobs. REALITY: Green energy is unreliable, uncompetitive
and renders industry unable to compete in world markets
4
CO2 is a pollutant. REALITY: CO2 is the air that all plants and crops breath.
More CO2= Better ag production
5
The Sustainability Movement isn’t trying to take away anyone's property rights or
freedoms. REALITY: The Sustainability movement is relentlessly attacking
property rights and freedoms
17


Caution-
The slides you are about to see will
be upsetting to sustainability /
global warming aficionados...
18
An “Answer” for Everything

“Climateers” simply hypothesize, manipulate models, and
conclude every weather and climate phenomenon is due to CO2
emissions. Hot or Cold; Wet or Dry; More storms, Fewer storms.
More ice, Less ice; an occasional disaster – yesterday,
tomorrow, if not now, someday; Sooner or Later.
“See… It’s exactly what we predicted.”

This is flat-earth pantheism, rooted in a notion of finite
production and demotion of man to third-class status on planet
earth. It’s ideological and religious – the only state-sanctioned,
state-supported religion permitted today.
19
Vernacular of the Globalists






Global Warming is now “Climate Change”
Climate Change is now “Sustainability”
Sea Level Rise is now “Storm Surge”
CO2 is now…………….. “CO2e”
Free Market Capitalism now “UNsustainable”
Marxism (communism) is “Sustainable”

Carbon Dioxide is 0.039% of our atmosphere.
Carbon dioxide is the “elixir of life” according to the
Science & Public Policy Institute
You decide… is this a problem?
CO2
0.039%
23
They say… “Why not play it safe?”



All plant life on earth needs CO2 to live.
CO2 abatement proposals would cost $671,000.25
for every human on earth to reduce the
temperature of the planet less than one degree
over the next 50 years.
If we are wrong, we will have destroyed our
economy; destroyed our standard of living; and
will have no resources remaining to deal with any
nature-induced problem (if it exists).
24
No Consensus on Climate


Professor of Biogeography Philip Stott of the University of
London:
“…climate change is governed by hundreds of
factors, or variables, and the very idea that we can
manage climate change predictably by
understanding and manipulating at the
margins one politically-selected factor
(CO2), is as misguided as it gets.”


“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes
it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t
buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S
Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane
Research Division of NOAA.

“…Global warming has become a new religion.”
-
Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“So far, real measurements give no ground for
concern about a catastrophic future warming.” Scientist Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, former Greenpeace member.
26
Will Maryland’s GHG Act
“fix” anything?

25% reduction below 2006 levels by 2020

$16 BILLION+ (by 2020)

If fully implemented, it claims it will reduce
temperature by… NOT STATED! (surprised?)

Maybe 1/10,000th of one degree… which means
even if it works, we have no way of measuring it

Why are we doing this?
27
Module- Bottom Line

Heavily politicized tortured
science that remains disputed,
and it is driving us toward
national bankruptcy.

QUOTES FROM Capitalism vs Climateby liberal Naomi Klein of “Nation” Magazine 11/28/2011


“So when [Heartlanders like Commissioner Rothschild]
react to… climate change as if capitalism
itself were coming under threat, it’s not
because they are paranoid… It’s because
they are paying attention”
“It is a painful irony that… most leftists
have yet to realize that climate science has
handed them the most powerful argument
against capitalism…”
30
Sustainability in their
own words…

Harvey Ruvin, recent Vice Chair
of the ICLEI, “individual rights
will have to take a back seat
to the collective” in the
process of implementing
Sustainable Development.

Third Annual Conference of the World
Association for Political Economy
Langfang, China, May 23-25, 2008




“The current global crisis cannot be fully resolved
within the historical framework of capitalism, and… “
“…global ecological sustainability will be possible
only with fundamental social transformations and a
new global economic system organised on the
principles of social ownership of land and other
major means of production…”
“…global ecological sustainability cannot be
accomplished without a massive mobilisation of the
world’s working classes and all oppressed peoples. “
”Only socialism and the global solidarity of all
working peoples can free both humanity and the
earth from the fatal threat of global capitalism.”


"We must make this an insecure and
inhospitable place for capitalists
and their projects ... We must
reclaim the roads and plowed land,
halt dam construction, tear down
existing dams, free shackled rivers
and return to wilderness tens of
millions of acres of presently settled
land.”

ICLEI -Charter 1.7 - Principles







The Association shall promote…Earth Charter Principles to guide local
action:
(6) Prevent harm as the best method of environmental protection
and, when knowledge is limited, apply a precautionary approach.
(7) Adopt patterns of production, consumption, and
reproduction that safeguard Earth’s regenerative capacities, human
rights, and community well-being.
(9) Eradicate poverty as an ethical, social, and environmental
imperative.
(10) Ensure that economic activities and institutions at all levels
promote human development in an equitable and sustainable
manner.
(11) Affirm gender equality and equity as prerequisites to sustainable
development and ensure universal access to education, health
care, and economic opportunity.
(14) Integrate into formal education and life-long learning the
knowledge, values, and skills needed for a sustainable way of life.

concept: Community (Social Equity),
Economy and Environment.”

43
Intrastate & Interstate
REGIONALISM

Why oppose it ? Because…




it takes accountability away from locally elected
officials
it places power (land use, taxation, regs) in hands of
regional boards appointed by elected officials you
don’t vote for and can’t replace.
it breaks-down jurisdictional boundaries that give
locals the power to STOP something at their
jurisdictional border
it enables the redistribution of wealth from one
jurisdiction to another to promote “social equity”. 44
Why push Regionalism?

Foodsheds & “Sustainability”?


Buying local food within a foodshed can be
seen as a means to combat the modern food
system, and the effects it has on the
environment. It has been described as “a
banner under which people attempt to
counteract trends of economic concentration,
social disempowerment and environmental
degradation…
Agriculture production alone contributes to
14% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas
emissions… [and]contributes to the global
issue of climate change.

47
MODULE BOTTOM-LINE:
They are “COMBATING” our systems
They oppose traditional American Farming
Operations; ignore Economies of Scale; and
Ignore the skill of experts who feed the world.
Why? Because private land ownership and free
market capitalism provide wealth and
abundance for Americans that make us strong.
48

or
Political Advocacy Groups?
( YOU DECIDE…)
49
Two types of people:



The FIRST type convert DREAMS into reality.
We call these people engineers, architect,
builders, and small business owners…
…The SECOND type of people try to convince
us the NIGHTMARE SHOULD BE OUR DREAM.
We call these people “URBAN PLANNERS”
- Commissioner Richard Rothschild
50
Planners– Fully indoctrinated

What they know just isn’t so…


They are being manipulated by a
movement with anti-free market; anticapitalist undercurrents
Along with environmentalists they are the
vehicle for overreaching GOVERNMENT
control of our lives under the name of
“SUSTAINABILITY”.

In their own words…

STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES: “We
believe planning should be a tool for
allocating resources… and eliminating
the great inequalities of wealth and
power in our society… because the
free market has proven incapable of
doing this.”

Socially destructive [suburban] development patterns,
but advocate “rights of urban dwellers”.

59
What do you say when people
ask… “Do you believe in Climate
Change?”


Of course
The Climate has been changing
since the beginning of the earth,
BUT…
That’s not the question…
60
THE QUESTIONS ARE:
(1)
Are climate fluctuations happening that exceed historical
cyclical norms?
If so:


(2)
(3)
(4)
(5)
(6)
(7)
(8)
to what extent are changes detrimental or beneficial to humans?
Are contributing factors primarily natural or anthropogenic?
If natural, what are the causes?
If anthropogenic, what is the cause.
Assuming we know the cause, what abatement or adaptation
techniques are most feasible and cost effective?
If natural, what focused adaptation is cost effective?
Why can’t we show a strong correlation between existing
theories versus the climate?
Why pursue an approach that will require 100 years or more to
work? (wash-out time of CO2 exceeds 100 years)
If they really believe this, why wasn’t one penny of the multitrillion dollar stimulus allocated for sea walls?

62
Preemptive Legislation




Vehicle Miles Traveled- GPS preemption
Private Well & Septic- Metering
preemption

To local planning groups: Your policies


On “Sustainability”: It doesn’t matter
what you think it means. All that
matters is what government thinks it

Sustainable FREEDOM; and
 Sustainable ECONOMICS


66
Winning Quips


It’s NOT a question of “IF” we should
protect the environment. The correct
question is “HOW”
A valid scientific and economic
Cost/Benefit Analysis is IMPERATIVE
for ALL “sustainability” initiatives.
67
Winning Quips

Don’t take my word for it… Here’s what
they say about themselves (use their
own words against them)

Sustainability is the NEW MARXISM… Just
Google “Sustainability Marxism” (see next slide)
68
In their own words…
69
Conclusions



Sustainability is not about the environment.
It is about control.
The Sustainability agenda provides an excuse
to attack free-market Capitalism and replace it
with government control of the factors of
production (land-labor-capital).
Constitutional Freedom and Free-Market
Capitalism is the BEST system for solving ALL
of the challenges of nature and mankind… and
this is what “Sustainability” is attacking!
