Anatomy of the Heart Cardiac Arteries and Veins Anatomy and Physiology - BIO 163 C C Next Anatomy and Physiology Navigation • During the tutorials, use the navigation tools at the bottom of the slide, when available. • Do not use the “page up and page down” keys on your keyboard. Next Previous This button advances one page. This button returns to the previous page. This button will take you to the beginning of the course. This button will take you the next course slide. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins Purpose: This tutorial provides an exercise to reinforce the knowledge of the BIO 163 student on the major cardiac arteries and veins. Objective: The BIO 163 student will identify the major cardiac arteries and veins, including the coronary arteries, great cardiac vein, and carotid artery, from memory, with 100% accuracy. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The coronary arteries are responsible for supplying blood to various parts of the heart. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The base of the left coronary artery is at the left aortic sinus. The artery supplies blood to the left side of the heart. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The base of the right coronary artery is at the right aortic sinus. The artery supplies blood to much of the right side of the heart, including the right atrium, as well as parts of the ventricles. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The cardiac veins remove deoxygenated blood. One of these, the great cardiac vein, has its base at the heart apex, curves into the coronary sulcus, and opens into the coronary sinus. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The cardiac veins remove deoxygenated blood. One of these, the great cardiac vein, has its base at the heart apex, curves into the coronary sulcus, and opens into the coronary sinus. C C The Cardiac Arteries and Veins From the left side of the aortic arch the left subclavian artery arises. It supplies blood to the left arm. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins Also arising from the aortic arch is the left common carotid artery, which supplies the neck and head with oxygenated blood. C C Previous Next The Cardiac Arteries and Veins The brachiocephalic artery arises from the right side of the aortic arch. This artery then branches into the right subclavian artery, which supplies blood to the right arm, and the right common carotid artery.
