I wanted to play so badly, but the cat froze up every time I went to pet her. I got it some water and food and decided I would just watch it. It ate and drank everything I put down for it. This was one hungry little cat! So what is an IRREGULAR VERB? Irregular verbs are: – verbs whose past and past participle tense forms do not follow the standard rules of adding –d or -ed to the end but instead have special forms or spellings. (Correct) My grandfather was died last year. (Incorrect) My grandfather has died last year. (Incorrect) Past Participle The past participle tense requires both the past form and one or more helping verbs. – Examples: Andrea had bitten into the chicken before I warned her it just came out of the oven. – (had = helping verb; bitten = past participle) Once Maria has chosen her little she sends her a letter and presents. – (has = helping verb; chosen = past participle) I might have slept more if I hadn’t listened to cheerleading music before bed. – (might, have = helping verbs; slept = past participle) Past Participle as Adjectives? Past participles can serve as adjectives in sentences, describing other words. – Examples: Kelly found the stolen purse under her friends floor mat. The written speech was easier to correct then the spoken speech. Activity Time What action (s) are taking place in this picture?
