to join two English sentences, or to give
more information about something.
EX:
• I bought a new car. It is very fast.
→ I bought a new car that is very fast.
• She lives in New York. She likes living in
New York.
→ She lives in New York, which she likes.

Defining
a. the subject:
• use ‘who’, ‘which’ or ‘that’.
• can come after the subject or the object
of the sentence.  can’t drop it.
clause after the object of the sentence:
• I’m looking for a secretary who / that can
use a computer well.
clause after the subject of the sentence:
• The house which / that belongs to
Julie is in London.

Non Defining
• don’t use ‘that’, so use ‘which’ if the
pronoun refers to a thing,
‘who’ if it refers to a person.
• can’t drop, even if it is the subject
(clause comes after the subject)
 My boss, who is very nice, lives in
Manchester.

• Yesterday I called our friend Julie, who
lives in New York.

Remember that a noun clause answers
questions like "who(m)?" or "what?";
an adjective clause answers questions like
"which (one)?"; and
an adverb clause answers questions like
"when?", "where?", "why?", "with what
goal/result?", and "under what
conditions?".

conditions?". Dengan menngunakan
connector yang tepat.
She didn’t do the task because her mother
was in the hospital.
Since he is not interested in classical music,
he decided not to go the concert music.
