Warm Ups 2-1 to 2-15
Warm Up #2-1, October 27
1. What are the 4 layers of the earth?
2. What are the 3 types of plate boundaries?
3. Describe what a subduction zone is.
Warm Up #2-2, October 28
1.
2.
Describe the process of seafloor spreading
Draw and label the diagram of seafloor spreading.
Warm Up #2-3, November 2
1. Describe the motion of the 3 types of plate
boundaries.
2. Warm peanut butter is easier to spread
than cold peanut butter. Explain how
knowing this help you understand why the
mantle is able to deform in a plastic
manner.
Warm Up #2-4, November 3

2.
Copy the steps for seafloor spreading
At the mid ocean ridge magma comes up from the mantle, cools, hardens
and becomes new crust.
At the divergent boundary, the new crust spreads out and pushes the old
rock to the sides in a continuous process.
When older oceanic crust reaches a continental crust the more dense
oceanic plate is subducted down and forms a trench on the surface
making a convergent boundary.
The older crust melts back into the mantle and is recycled by convection
currents.
Draw and label the diagram of seafloor spreading.
Warm Up #2-5, November 4
1. Describe the 3 types of faults and stresses
associated with them.
2. What is the similarity and difference
between a S-wave and an P-wave?
Warm Up #2-6, November 5
1. Describe the 3 types of boundaries and where they can
be found.
2. Give one fact about each layer of the earth.
3. Draw a diagram of an earthquake. Include; fault, focus,
epicenter and seismic waves.
Warm Up #2-6, November 5
1. Describe the 3 types of boundaries and where they can
be found.
2. Give one fact about each layer of the earth.
3. Draw a diagram of an earthquake. Include; fault, focus,
epicenter and seismic waves.
Warm Up #2-7, November 9
1. Give 3 real life examples of a solution, solute and a
solvent.
2. Convert the following problems using metric conversions
1.
2.
3.
3.
3.68 kg = __________ g
568 cm = __________ m
8700 mL = __________ L
What 2 things form at an ocean-ocean convergent boundary?
Warm Up #2-8, November 10
1. Describe how silica affects the
viscosity of lava that comes from a
shield volcano.
2. Describe what occurs when two plates
collide and create a subduction zone
Warm Up #2-9, November 11
1. Compare and contrast a p-wave and an swave (1 similarity, 2 differences).
2. Identify the plate boundary and type of
crust that formed the Himalayan
Mountains (mountains between India and
the rest of Asia).
Warm Up #2-10, November 12
•Draw and label each layer of the earth.
Give 2 facts about each layer.
Warm Up #2-11, November 13
Answer the following questions and reflect on this unit. “IDK” or
“nothing” is not an acceptable response.
1. What is the most interesting thing that you have learned about
this unit?
2. What is something that you still have a question regarding this
unit?
3. What is something that you would like to learn more about from
this unit?
Warm Up #2-12, November 16
List everything that you know about each of the following words or
statements. If you don’t know it, what do you think it means
1. Fossils
2. Continental drift
3. Relative Age
4. Absolute Age
5. Law of Superposition
6. Geologic Time Scale
Warm Up #2-13, November 18
1.
2.
3.
What is the difference between a cast and a mold fossil?
What is a trace fossil?
How do fossils form?
Warm Up #2-14, November 19
•Describe the 2 out of the 3 clues that Alfred
Wegener used to support his theory of
continental drift.
Warm Up Quiz
will be
tomorrow!
Warm Up #2-15, November 15
• How is it possible for scientists to do studies about things that
happened millions of years ago?
