Target Market and Demographics
Nothing is left to chance…
• Advertisers always have a specific
purpose for the ad and it is constructed in
a way that will appeal to a specific target
audience
• Advertisers do market research to figure
out who usually buys their product, or who
they would like to buy their product.
• They then create ads to appeal to this
group
• Target Audience: The group of
consumers for whom the media text is
constructed.
• Demographics: Measurable
characteristics of media consumers such
as age, gender, race, education and
income level.
