IN THE NAME OF ALLAH Civil Defense in ATM and Encountering Electromagnetic Attacks By: Saeed Akbari ATS Expert [email protected] Civil Defense Passive Defense ANY OPERATIONAL UNIT IN ATM SHOULD HAVE CONTINGENCY PROCEDURES FOR: Unexpected natural events (earth quake, flood, tsunami, storm,…) ……………………. Enemies attack… Electro Magnetic Attacks: Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) High Power Microwaves (HPM) Flux Generator Bomb E - BOMB The term electromagnetic pulse (EMP) has the following meanings: The electromagnetic radiation from an explosion (especially a nuclear explosion) or an intensely fluctuating magnetic field caused by Compton-recoil electrons and photoelectrons from photons scattered in the materials of the electronic or explosive device or in a surrounding medium. The resulting electric and magnetic fields may couple with electrical/electronic systems to produce damaging current and voltage surges. See Electromagnetic bomb for details on the damages resulting to electronic devices. The effects are usually not noticeable beyond the blast radius unless the device is nuclear or specifically designed to produce an electromagnetic shockwave. A broadband, high-intensity, short-duration burst of electromagnetic energy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse WILL ALL THIS STUFF WORK? NX6R ACTIONS IN ATM REGARDING E-BOMBING • • • • • • • Pre Attack Actions: Protecting CNS systems against E-bombing (shielding, grounding, cabling…) All data storing materials should be changed to CD & DVD Preparing contingency procedures Training (ATS & maintenance staff…) Tactical maneuvers Briefing meetings ACTIONS IN ATM REGARDING E-BUMBING • Actions during the attack: ?
