Examples:  Keyboards, Synthesizers  Drum Machines  Guitars  Wind Instruments  Percussion Instruments  Samplers  COMPUTERS Equipment needed:  Sound Making Device (Instrument)  Storage Device (Computer)  Interface (Single or Multi-port)  M.I.D.I. Software Types Of M.I.D.I. Software  Sequencers  Notation programs Sequencer Program Software that allows you to record multiple MIDI tracks that are played back through the musical instrument to create musical pieces. (Great for auditory learners) Examples  Cakewalk SONAR  Steinberg Cubase  Ableton Live Notation Programs Software that allows you to input notes and playback musical pieces by note reading. (Great for visual learners) Examples  Finale  Sibelius Digital Audio A format of recording ANY type of audio directly into a computer or other digital equipment that allows that audio to be later recorded to CD or DVD media. Equipment Needed:  Fairly fast processor – Pentium 4 or G4  Audio interface – USB 2.0 or Firewire  Audio Software  Second Hard Drive for Audio Files  CD/DVD Burner  Sound System Digital Audio Examples:  Computer-based recording  Stand alone CD recorder  Digital Audio Workstation  TIVO satellite TV recorder  High Definition T.V.  7 channel digital surround sound Audio Editing In the 21st century, audio editing usually refers to using software to edit or make changes to previously recorded digital audio examples. The two most common types are software and stand alone units.
