MARKETING AND SALES OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECUADORIAN FLOWER GROWERS ___________________________________________________________________________________ Quito, November 12. 2015 GLOBALFORUM and CREEZY! THE AGENCY present: “Marketing and Sales Opportunities for Ecuadorian Flower Growers” Current economic conditions have significantly altered the dynamics of flower sales and marketing strategies world-wide. These conditions have created opportunities for Ecuadorian flower growers to re-think strategies for marketing flowers in the US. Find out why 35 year flower sales, marketing and logistics expert Terry Johnson believes Ecuador could more than double its current flower sales to the United States. Attending this workshop will provide a valuable analysis of the opportunities ahead as well as a blueprint for improving flower sales and profits within the largest consumer market for flowers in the world. PROGRAM Fundamentals of Value Added Sales and Marketing for Growers Before marketing strategies and major investments can be effective, it is first necessary to review the current assumptions and structures of US floriculture and then examine methods of improving these structures to facilitate necessary changes. This session will help growers establish a solid foundation on which to build profitable flower sales in the US. Understanding US Consumers Who are growers growing flowers for? Importers? Wholesalers? Retailers? Actually it is consumers who should be thought of first. Yet few growers know much about these consumers. Who are they? What do they currently think of flowers? How can we improve their low perceptions of the value of flowers? These are the questions we will explore in this session. Understanding US Supermarkets and their Vendors Since supermarkets represent more than half of total flower sales in the US, it is important to know this important retail segment. This session will give you the inside information from someone with more than 30 years’ experience with both supermarkets and their flower vendors. 2 Improving Profits from US Flower Sales What good does it do to get increased flower sales, if you aren’t getting the price you need? How can growers change the current dynamics of a priceoriented US market to one that is more receptive to buying flowers based on their relative value? Why Proper Flower Handling is Vital to Your Future Dr. Dominic Durkin of Rutgers used to say: “Quality on the plant does not always translate into quality in the hands consumers.” Find out why proper handling of flowers can give you a solid competitive differential advantage. Opportunities for growers to include rose breeds specifically for perfumery use. There is a fast growing segment of the perfume industry focusing on naturalbased perfumes. These companies will be needing flowers to be grown for the production of essential oils for perfume use, which offers flower growers a new market for flowers at very high prices. We will be discussing this opportunity during the workshop. SPEAKER TERRY JOHNSON Managing Partner, Creezy! The Agency. President, Horticultural Marketing Resources Vice Chairman, The International Perfume Foundation. During Terry’s 25 years of consulting work inside and outside the flower industry he has helped flower breeders, growers, retail florists, with branding, marketing, training and logistics development. He served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Fresh Produce and Floral Council and was recipient of the prestigious Floral Achievement Award in 1998.
