Double Impatiens Walleriana - Musica™- Culture Description
FAMILY: Balsaminaceae
ORIGIN: Africa, Asia
SEASON: Spring, summer, autumn. Winter also, in moderate climates.
USDA HARDINESS:10-11
ROOTING: 14-21 days at temperatures of 68-74℉ (20 -23℃).
PLANTING: For 4" (10 cm) pot, use 1 plant per pot. Ready for sales within 5-7 weeks. For 6” (15 cm) Pot, use 1-2
plants per pot. Ready in 6-8 weeks.
For 10" (25 cm) hanging baskets or pots, use 3-4 plants. Ready in 8-10 weeks.
PINCHING: Musica™ Impatiens has an excellent branching habit and does not require pinching.
LIGHT: Medium light levels: 4000–6000fc / 40000-60000 LUX. Extra shade is required under high temperatures, to
protect leaves and flowers from burning. Too low light intensities (below 2,000fc) will cause stretched plants.
TEMPERATURE: Night: 62-64℉ (17-18℃) Day: 68-75℉ (20-24℃). Too low temperatures will inhibit growth and
cause too compact plants. Too high temperatures will enhance growth, causing tall, thin plants - especially under low
light conditions.
FERTILIZATION: Constant feed with well-balanced fertilizer, 150-200 ppm N. Periodical leaching with clear water
to prevent salt accumulation. Too high Ammonia levels will cause excessive vegetative growth and inhibit flowering.
IRRIGATION: Media should be moist, but not over-watered. Reducing watering when plants are reaching their full
size will promote flowering.
MEDIUM: Use sterile, well-drained media, with good water holding capacity.
Optimal pH: 5.8-6.2. Too wet and un-aerated media will cause stretched plants and reduce flowering.
GROWTH CONTROL: The best regulator is good cultural practices:
-Maintaining recommended light and temperature levels to avoid stretched plants and delayed flowering.
-Keeping low levels of Ammonia and avoiding over-watering to prevent excessive growth and delayed flowering.
-Usually growth regulators are not necessary. However, under low light intensities, it might be advisable to use them.
DISEASES & PEST CONTROL:
Insects: Thrips, Aphids and Mites.
Diseases: Botrytis & Pythium.
Impatiens Walleriana is sensitive to several viruses; therefore it is essential to start with virus-free material.
All Danziger's Musica™ cuttings are derived from culture and virus-free stock.
The cultural instructions presented here should be regarded as general guide lines. It is advised to make necessary adjustments when growing in
different climatic conditions and agricultural practices. Danziger – "Dan" Flower Farm is not responsible for any damage caused by implementation
of the recommendations.
