Position: Marketing Director: Job Status; Salaried; Exempt.
Position Summary: This position might more aptly be called The Rescue Mission’s Chief
Storyteller. By gaining a deep understanding of the mission and vision of the organization, its
programs and its stakeholders, you’ll use creative skills and strategies to implement campaigns
and develop programs to further the Mission’s reach. You’ll proactively seek out and hear
storylines throughout the organization and present them in a collaborative, mindful way with
the ultimate goal of raising resources.
Position Description: The Marketing Director reports directly to the Executive Vice President of
Operations and is responsible for planning, developing and implementing marketing,
communications and public relations strategies to create opportunities that increase
awareness, credibility, and raise resources for the organization. Additionally, this position is
responsible for assisting with strategic planning, development and execution of the annual fund
development plan.
Responsibilities:
1. Marketing, Communications and Public Relations



Create, implement and measure the success of marketing and communications programs
that will enhance the organization’s image and position in the community.
Maintain brand standards in all internal and external communications.
Serve as the corporate advocate for adherence to the brand standards of The Rescue
Mission.















Develop marketing materials that reflect the organization’s mission.
Direct, design, edit, coordinate and produce all the organization’s print and electronic
communications as well as promotional materials (logos, letterhead, brochures, annual
report, calendar, posters, flyers, e-blasts, newsletters, donor receipt language, t-shirts,
signage, etc.)
Develop, implement and evaluate the annual development plan across the organization,
seeking to strengthen multi-channel marketing efforts; coordinate with the other
departments.
Create, develop, enhance website and perform ongoing webpage maintenance; ensure that
content is updated regularly and maximize Search Engine Optimization.
Oversee The Rescue Mission’s Google Analytics to ensure maximum impact and make
adjustments to website and electronic mail campaigns as necessary.
Review, approve, and add all web content from other directors and Mission staff.
Manage the organization’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
communications programs.
Review, approve, and add all social media content from other directors and Mission staff.
Track and measure the effectiveness of the communications tools.
Generate positive publicity through the creation and implementation of press releases,
media advisories and public service announcements.
Cultivate, develop and maintain all media relations and contacts; stay abreast of daily news
and “pitch” stories regularly positioning TRM personnel and services as the local experts in
serving the needs of the hungry and homeless.
Oversee and direct all of The Rescue Mission’s advertising efforts.
Develop TRM media plan including crisis communications plan and train TRM staff
accordingly.
Work with clinical team to stay informed of current statistical data that supports agency
mission.
Create talking points, elevator pitches and other discussion topics and tools for the
Executive Leadership Team.
2. Fundraising
 Create and implement marketing strategies and campaigns for direct mail, church and
business partnerships, sponsorships, and special events.
 Write and develop promotional materials, newsletters, direct mail campaigns, and other
communications materials that support the fundraising and other agency programs
including online campaigns.
3. Planning and Budgeting
 Assist with establishing short and long term plans and budget for marketing and
communications efforts.
 Work closely with the Executive Vice President of Operations and other development team
members on strategic direction
 Collaborate with other departments in the accomplishment of the organization’s goals and
objectives.
 Design, implement and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of marketing and
communications programs.
 Identify marketing trends and potential business opportunities.
4. Management
 Provide support and direction to the Development Team in areas of marketing,
communication and fundraising.
 Manage interns and marketing volunteers effectively by providing direction and resources,
developing their skills, articulating expectations, and clarifying roles and relationships.
 Manage vendor relationships with advertising agencies, graphic designers, printing
companies, web designers and any other agent that provides support for the marketing and
communications efforts.
5. Outreach & Advocacy, Volunteer and Event Support
 Assist with the outreach and advocacy efforts of TRM and the homeless in our region;
ensure participation at community events that maximize the awareness and exposure of the
organization (i.e. National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Annual Celebration
and Stewardship Banquet, Charis House Gala, etc.)
 Represent the organization at meetings and community events when necessary.
6. Other Duties
 Generate proposals to secure corporate sponsorships as requested
 Perform presentation and public speaking engagements as assigned
 Support fundraising events as assigned
 Serve as The Rescue Mission’s primary copywriter in all areas of the organization
 Perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Minimum of three years of experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations.
2. Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, related field or
equivalent experience.
3. Experience developing and managing budgets.
4. Experience designing and producing printed materials, electronic communications,
presentations and video productions.

Creative, strategic and fundraising skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
