Vacancy Senior Scientist Translational Medicine Introduction Cristal Therapeutics is a clinical stage pharmaceutical company developing the next generation nanomedicines based on its proprietary CriPec® platform. CriPec® allows for the development of targeted nanomedicines with superior efficacy and safety profiles to treat various diseases, in particular cancer. The most advanced product in development is CriPec® docetaxel, which is currently in clinical evaluation for the treatment of solid tumours. Meanwhile, the CriPec® platform is further developed for application in multiple therapeutic areas, partially in collaboration with commercial partners. The aim of our recent activities is to realise selective tumour targeting of oligonucleotides upon entrapment in custom-made CriPec® nanoparticles, as well as to facilitate specific cellular uptake upon combining CriPec® nanoparticles with high affinity ligands such as antibodies or aptamers. These innovations are taking place in an arena that brings different scientific approaches together, e.g. selective (anticancer) drug targeting, molecular biology, and exploiting the specific pathophysiological features of tumour tissue. To support these challenging developments, we have currently a vacancy for a Senior Scientist Translational Medicine. The challenge In your position as Senior Scientist Translational Medicine you are responsible to: • Develop the CriPec® platform in the field of oligonucleotides and active targeting by a science-based, translational approach • Design of comprehensive plans, timelines and budgets for these development projects • Draft the detailed experimental design of pharmacological studies aiming to demonstrate the added value of CriPec® oligonucleotides and CriPec® active targeting, coordinate in-house and external activities and author technical reports detailing experimental work and summarise results • Establish and strengthen network of (academic) experts in areas as oncology-focused molecular biology, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and safety • Effectively communicate plans and experimental results to involved project members These responsibilities comprise scientific conceptual as well as hands-on operational activities The position As Senior Scientist Translational Medicine you will have functional relationships with members of Management Team (including reporting to the CSO), the Director Pharmacology, the consultant preclinical toxicology, the consultant regulatory affairs as well as external CRO’s. Profile • Preferred background: molecular biology, pharmacology, medical biology; ideally with experience in oncology and/or nanomedicines, including monitoring the biological fate of nanoparticles • Creative scientist able to apply biological insights and (breakthrough) techniques in the development of a nanomedicinal platform towards innovative products with a clear added value • At least 3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry and demonstrated excellence in drug development • Proven track record in translational medicine Personal competences • Relentless ownership and responsibility to meet agreed targets • Enthusiastic and open-minded • Entrepreneurial spirit, including creativity to solve any sort of challenge • Eager to work in start-up company, e.g. flexible, pro-active, hands-on and multi-disciplinary mind-set • In a friendly but professional manner being able to convince involved parties on chosen strategy and demonstrate excellent time and budget responsibility • Being able to represent the company Specific job skills • Rapidly understand a small company focus and act correspondingly • Being able to translate company’s strategic goals and milestones into development plans • Tremendous ability to work on multiple projects under time pressure, and assuring excellent communication between involved project members (external and internal) • Commercial focus: knowing how to handle the balance between R&D standards on the one hand, and business needs on the other hand • Analytical and creative problem-solver • Broad understanding of basic life science and a passionate interest in human health • Having a useful network to bring in expertise and knowledge • Team player, eager to contribute to the success of a small, innovative company • Keen to work on highly innovative nanomedicines that make a real difference for patients • Fluent in English both in word and writing, preferably also in Dutch Interested?
