Hands-On UCL INSTITUTE OF CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCE CARDIAC MORPHOLOGY This course is suitable for all those The aim of the course is to allow for wishing to improve their knowledge of structured learning, about important groups cardiac anatomy, in particular congenital of congenital heart disease, in a self- heart malformations, from fetal life to directed and object-based manner through adulthood. Participants find that the didactic lectures, discussion and hands-on course provides a significant step in examination of heart specimens. their professional learning, regardless of specialty or level. Knowledge will be built up from day 1 (normal anatomy and septal defects) to the more complex topics on days 2 and 3. It is suitable for both healthcare professionals and for scientists investigating the causes of disease. By the end of the course, participants should be comfortable with the anatomy of major groups of congenital heart disease and be able to analyse hearts in a logical fashion. Topics (full programme overleaf) • The approach to analysis • Detailed normal anatomy • Septal defects (ASD, VSD, AVSD) • Outflow tract abnormalities: tetralogy of Fallot, double outlet ventricle, transposition, arch anomalies • Valvar abnormalities • Complex lesions – Isomerism, functionally univentricular hearts CARDIAC Hands-On MORPHOLOGY DAY 1: Morning DAY 2: Morning DAY 3: Morning Concepts & Normal Anatomy Arterial Abnormalities Functionally Univentricular Hearts 9.00 Meet & Registration 9.00 Tetralogy of Fallot 9.00 9.30 Introduction to programme & facilities 9.30 Hands-on & Group discussion Double Inlet Ventricle & Absent AV Connection 9.30 9.45 The approach to analysis 10.00 Double Outlet Ventricle Hands-on & Group discussion 10.15 Hands-on - Normal Anatomy 10.30 Hands-on & Group discussion 10.00 Aortic & Pulmonary Atresia + IVS 10.30 Hands-on & Group discussion 11.00Tea/Coffee 11.15Sequential Segmental Analysis 12.30 - 1.30 Lunch 11.00Tea/Coffee 11.15 Concordant VA + Discordant VA connections (TGA) 11.45 Hands-on & Group discussion DAY 1: Afternoon Septal Defects 1.30ASD/Interatrial Communications 2.00 Hands-on & Group discussion 2.30 Ventricular Septal Defects 3.00 Hands-on & Group discussion 3.30Tea/Coffee 3.45Atrioventricular Septal Defect 4.15 Hands-on & Group discussion 5.00 Finish & Review 11.00Tea/Coffee Arch Anomalies 11.15 Coarctation & arch anomalies 11.45 Hands-on & Group discussion 12.30 - 1.30 Lunch DAY 2: Afternoon 12.30 - 1.30 Lunch 1.30 Discordant AV & VA connections (CCTGA) 2.00 Hands-on & Group discussion 2.30 Common arterial trunk & valvar lesions 1.45 3.00 Hands-on & Group discussion 3.30Tea/Coffee 3.30Tea/Coffee Complex Disease DAY 3: Afternoon Case review session 2.15Discussion 3.30 Miscellaneous anomalies & requests 4.00Finish 3.45Isomerism 4.15 Hands on Isomerism 5.00 Finish & Review Bookings Additional Information For dates, venues & bookings please see our page on Eventbrite www.cardiacmorphology.eventbrite.co.uk ** Spaces for each course are limited to allow for more personal tuition, time for examination of specimens and discussion**. 20% concession for GOSH or UCL employees (enter code: GOSH123 or UCL123 when booking standard ticket).
