Brian Trafas, Ph.D.
Chief Marketing Officer
KLA-Tencor
Brian Trafas serves as the chief marketing officer, where he is responsible for
overseeing marketing initiatives, product development, marketing communications,
market research, and the development of marketing talent. During his tenure, he has
led the company’s introduction of Laser Scattering Patterned Wafer Inspection products,
Scatterometry-based critical dimension (CD) products, and developed a company-wide
program of marketing best practices and talent forums. Prior to this appointment, he
served as vice president and general manager of KLA-Tencor’s CD metrology division.
With two decades of experience in the semiconductor capital equipment industry, with
an emphasis on process control, Trafas is a sought-after author having contributed
more than 30 technical papers. He has written extensively about CD process control,
advanced patterned wafer inspection methodologies and the application of scanning
probe microscopes. Currently, Trafas is the chairman of the SEMI North America
Advisory Board, leading multiple constituencies in the advancement of semiconductor
technology.
Trafas holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from St. John’s University and a doctorate
in materials science from the University of Minnesota. He has earned several industry
honors including the R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine.
