Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit, University of Dundee, UK Applications are invited for the above position to join Dr Kei Sakamoto’s Research Group to study the roles of AMP-activated protein kinase in diabetes. The position is available from February 2008. The appointment will be made on the University’s salary scale Grade 7 (£26,666-£32,796) and funded by Diabetes UK. The focus of the laboratory is to understand the molecular physiology and cellular signal transduction of protein kinases, particularly those that are important drug targets for the treatment of diabetes. The project aims to investigate the roles that cellular energy sensor protein, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), plays in various tissues such as muscle and liver and identify novel substrates of AMPK using genetic mouse models and State of the Art molecular physiological and proteomic approaches. The MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit is a major international centre for research on cell signalling. Research funding to the Unit is one of the highest in the UK and its innovative collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry (The Division of Signal Transduction Therapy) received a Queen’s Anniversary Award in 2006. For further information about the Unit and its research see its website (www.dundee.ac.uk/lifesciences/mrcppu/). Applications in the form of a CV, a list of publications and the names and contact numbers of three referees should be emailed to Mrs Judith L N Hare, MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit Secretary, College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee (email [email protected]) by December 15th 2007. Informal enquiries should be sent to Dr Kei Sakamoto (email [email protected]) Applicants will only be contacted if invited for interview.
