Genetic Diseases/Disorders
Research Project
You will do research and create a poster or digital presentation on a genetic disorder. You
should include the following information:
 A discussion of your chosen disorder, how is it transmitted and what areas of the human
anatomy are affected.
 Examples of famous people with the disease (if possible)
 Describe if the disorder is a chromosomal abnormality, autosomal dominant or recessive,
or sex-linked dominant or recessive in your own words.
 List the symptoms.
 Describe cures if any or treatments if any.
 Discuss if the disease is more prevalent in males, females, or a particular ethnic group.
 Discuss the life expectancy of someone who has the disease
 Show a genetic cross representing a person who has the disorder
 Cross two people to show how you can get the disorder
 Cross someone who has the disorder with a regular person to show the possible outcomes
for their children.
 Make a pedigree of the person’s parents, the person who has the disorder, their partner
and their children (must have at least two children)
Your poster should include pictures of individuals with the disease, should be neat, and legible.
(A person should be able to read it from a reasonable distant away from poster.)
In addition to the poster you will do a presentation to your table group. Your presentation can
be a power point in addition to/or instead of your poster. Presentation must be 3 minutes
minimum.
