Genetic Disorder Project
We have discussed a few genetic disorders in class, but there are hundreds more. Each student is asked to choose a
different genetic disorder to research and make an informative poster board that can be displayed in the hall to
educate others. All of the information on the poster board must be typed and neatly done. Your board should be
full of information, be neatly organized, and eye catching.
-1 to -5 pts for messiness
No credit is given for handwritten parts.
Each poster board should discuss the following: 1.5 pts each * 10 bullets = 15 pts
 Name of disorder
 Chromosome disorder is located
 How is it inherited? (X-linked or autosomal? Dominant or recessive? Do they even know?)
 What part of the planet is it more prevalent? Why??
 Does a certain ethnicity tend to carry the disorder more than others? Why??
 Symptoms of disorder
 Are there any treatment options
 How does this disorder affect one’s life?
 Is it fatal?
 When was it first discovered or how long have we known about it?
Please keep in mind that this poster board is to educate others. Several of these projects will be placed in the hall in
the hopes someone will stop and look at topics that interest them. Do not answer these questions in one essay.
Please bullet the information under headlines and answer the information in complete sentences. You may need
to include additional information or pictures to cover your board with information.

You should put a minimum of 3 pictures related to the disorder on your poster board. Please include a caption
under each picture describing the picture and its relevance to the disorder. These should be done in complete
sentences. The pictures should be 4” x 4” or larger. You will receive no credit for the picture if it is too small or
irrelevant to the topic.

Don’t forget the bibliography! APA format, please. The pictures need to be cited as well. This means your
bibliography should be in alphabetical order.

All of the information needs to be displayed on the front of your poster board. This includes your full name, period
topic, and bibliography.

There will be a sign-up sheet in my classroom for you to record your selection. Please keep in mind that each
person in your class needs a different disorder. The sooner you sign up the better chance you have of getting your
first choice. You may not change your topic once you have written it on the list.
